“When we least expect it, life sets us a challenge to test our courage and willingness to change;
at such a moment, there is no point in pretending that nothing has happened
or in saying that we are not ready. The challenge will not wait. Life does not look back.
A week is more than enough time for us to decide whether or not to accept our destiny.”
- Paulo Coelho
For the few of you that have taken a look at my blog from time to time you will have noticed a change, both in the title and description and the type of postings. I decided to do this rather than to start something new and another link for people to follow; change is as good as a holiday! Hopefully I will be able to keep up with some not so serious blogs to keep it interesting & fun, both for myself and for the readers.
I was never really very active on this blog and posted things from time to time, but I have now committed to improving on this and so for me personally that is going to be the challenge; to be consistent as far as I can and to continue posting here about how I help my clients, and to share some of my experiences in life with others.
Change is never easy and making it sustainable is even more difficult. I know that in my personal life in the last few years I have undergone some remarkable changes, with some of the major stressors that people can and do experience - and I have survived, with a lot of hard work and effort. This by no means makes me someone special or extraordinary and above the rest, very few things in life come without some sweat and perseverance. I have also been fortunate that my professional background and life experiences have led me to where I am today.
In most of my work I like to use the behavioral change model as it is really what life is about when it comes to improving our vitality and zest for living, in both our personal and working environments. I am not a change management specialist and have little experience in organizational development, but the changes that we wish to make in our personal lives are not that much different.
As I said one of the more difficult aspects of changing behavior is making it sustainable. It needs to become part of our subconscious mind and so habitual that all it does is replace the bad or unwanted habits of the past. Behavioral change is usually about changing undesired or unwanted behavior into something new and exciting, revitalizing – why would we want to change anything that is idyllic in the first place?
It is not about being perfect, but being aware of the challenges that we face, acknowledging when we slip and taking the small steps from there without beating ourselves up.
When I wake up every morning and get out of bed - which is the toughest part of my day - I am always eternally grateful for the things that I have been granted in my life. By acknowledging how fortunate most of us are in life, can make our days seem that much easier to get through!!
My challenges and the will to change are what have made me a better person.
